F2 – Alex Fontana at sharp end once more in Hungaroring practice

Alex Fontana

20-year-old leads from British duo Zamparelli and Bacheta in second session

Alex Fontana was yet again the man to beat during today’s (Friday) second Formula Two practice session at the Hungaroring, with the 20-year-old opting for a short six-lap run to set his best time ahead of British pair Dino Zamparelli and Luciano Bacheta.

After topping the timesheets this morning, the Swiss driver opted for the same strategy to post a 1:35.022s, a full 0.8s quicker than the rest of the field who chose to focus on simulating race runs and tyre degradation.

His nearest rival during the 45-minute sun-drenched stint was Zamparelli who failed to set a lap in free practice one after a coming together with Hector Hurst. The British/Italian finished just ahead of Bacheta, who can secure the F2 title this weekend, with Mathéo Tuscher fourth and the start of a very tightly packed midfield with just a few tenths separating many of the drivers.

German Markus Pommer finished P5 ahead of Mihai Marinescu while Zimbabwean Axcil Jefferies continued to impress at the 4.381km Budapest track with another P7 slot. Eighth spot went to Christopher Zanella with David Zhu and Kevin Mirocha rounding out the top 10 ahead of what is set to be a very close qualifying session tomorrow.

The F2 drivers return to the track at 09:50 (local time) for Q1 with full coverage on the F2 website.
