The second race of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship Zandvoort weekend saw Trackspeed’s Nick Tandy and David Ashburn take victory, their third of the year, ahead of a spirited performance by Rob Barff and Gary Eastwood in the FF Corse Ferrari, and Phil Keen and Jon Minshaw made it a Trackspeed 1-3 by taking the final place on the podium. Declan Jones now leads the GT4 class after he and team-mate Nathan Freke took the win amongst British GT competitors today in their Century Motorsport Ginetta. Read more of this post

GT4 title rivals show pace on legendary Dutch circuit

 Trackspeed’s Nick Tandy topped both Avon Tyres British GT Championship free practice sessions today at the Dutch coastal circuit, Zandvoort. The two 55-minute sessions provided plenty of excitement ahead of tomorrow’s qualifying session and first race and the Porsche factory driver used his knowledge of the Circuit Park Zandvoort to finish quickest across the day. In GT4 it was the Las Moras Chevrolet Camaro of local driver Duncan Huisman who was quickest in the lunchtime session and Century Motorsports’ team owner and racer, Nathan Freke who went quickest in the second session. Spectators witnessed a hotly contested race one give Michael Caine and Ahmad Al Harthy their fifth successive points score in 2013 and David Ashburn and Nick Tandy become the first repeat winners in the 2013 season in race two. Rembert Berg claimed pole position for the first Snetterton Avon Tyres British GT Championship race, setting a 2:05.866 lap time in the #10 M-Sport Audi R8 LMS ultra he shares with Warren Hughes, at the very end of a busy first qualifying session. In qualifying two, Stephen Jelley was the man to beat, the Trackspeed driver secured pole for race two in the #32 Porsche with a rapid lap of 2:04.526, finishing a comfortable seventh tenths ahead of his nearest rival, in the second fifteen-minute session. An exciting 30-minute Avon Tyres British GT championship qualifying session at Rockingham produced a dream result for the Surrey-based Trackspeed team, with the #31 Porsche 997 GT3 R of Nick Tandy and David Ashburn leading the way from Phil Keen and Jon Minshaw’s #33 Porsche and the #32 Porsche of Richard Westbrook and Gregor Fisken.
